BACKGROUND

Lord Hill Park trails are maintained and built by volunteers. Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department does not have the resources to staff this park full time. If you use this park regularly and care about its future, please join us for a work party. Work parties are fun and a great way to give something back to the park and meet other park users.

MEETING PLACE

We meet at the parking lot for a demonstration on trail-building and safety techniques. Bring a backpack to carry lunch and whatever else you need for the day. We’ll hike into the worksite as each volunteer carries one of the park tools. Some work parties are for 8 hours. Others are just a 2 to 4 hours.

REQUIREMENTS

No trail work experience is necessary. There are all levels of work to be done. You should be in reasonable health. We have light tasks to do such as raking trails, clipping  bushes, picking up litter  and more strenuous work such as drainage work, removing mud,  rocks and the occasional  stump. For some work parties we also need volunteers to supervise others and aren’t required to perform work.

GETTING READY

Bring work gloves, water, lunch, sunscreen, insect repellent, and any other personal items. Dress in layers and rain gear appropriate for the season. Wear warm socks and work boots for muddy conditions. We provide instruction for techniques to work on the trails as well as safety information. The parks department provides all the tools.
